<Face to Face>

(China/The Netherlands, 2020)
Augmented Reality and film, Dutch Première

Location: virtual environment (part of AR city tour)

<Face to Face> is an immersive artwork that includes a fictional video essay in an AR experience scenario, and face filters interactions on the Instagram platform. Through affective storytelling to communicate about personal social anxiety, it displays an intimate connection between emotional recognition technology and users. The work shows how the algorithm system becomes a kind of companion species in digital life, while reflecting on our blended identity of the contemporary cyborg in relationships between the “self” and “others,” (otherness) “human” and “machine,” “inner space” and “outside space.”

Audience: All ages
Accessible for people with a hearing and visual impairment.
